Advanced after defeat. Polish national team in the Round of 16 of the World Cup!
The Polish national team lost 0–2 to Argentina in the third match of the group phase of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but will still play in the Round of 16! One of the heroes of the match was Wojciech Szczęsny who saved a penalty kick for the second time in this tournament. The Poles ultimately finished second in the group with four points and will face world champions – France – in the next round.
Robert Lewandowski: I've fulfilled my dream
"Obviously, when playing for the national team, the most important thing is the interest of the team, which must always come first. However, I am a striker and of course in the back of my mind I think about scoring goals and helping the team in this way. Even though I managed to set up a goal on the first hit, I was still hoping to score at the World Cup and fulfill my dream," said Robert Lewandowski after the match against Saudi Arabia.
Wojciech Szczęsny: We could have scored definitely higher
"The rival was waiting for me to make the first move on a penalty kick and simply got fooled. After the previous match there were complaints "about the long pass," so I gave one good pass. And my "long passes" are always precise. Certainly our confidence has grown after this win. We could have finished this match with a much higher score. Especially in the last minutes we had our chances and it's a bit of a shame. It's nice to win a match at the World Cup. It's really a very special feeling," said Wojciech Szczęsny after winning the match against Saudi Arabia.
Czesław Michniewicz: You could feel the power in this team
The Polish national team defeated Saudi Arabia 2:0 in the second match of the World Cup in Qatar. The White-and-Reds took the lead in Group C. "We are very happy that we brought so much joy to the fans. The first goal and the defended penalty kick were the turning points of the match," admitted Czesław Michniewicz, the Polish national team head coach.
An extremely important victory! Poland wins against Saudi Arabia!
The Polish national team defeated Saudi Arabia 2:0 in its second match at this year's World Cup in Qatar. The goals for the White-and-Reds were scored by Piotr Zieliński and Robert Lewandowski, and the hero of the match was Wojciech Szczęsny, who, with the score at 1:0 at the end of the first half, defended a penalty kick. The White-and-Reds will play their last group stage match, decisive for advancing to the round of 16 of the tournament, on Wednesday, with Argentina as their rival.
Robert Lewandowski: Both teams could have won
"I think that neither team had an advantage in the match and both could have won. I respect that one point, but at the same time we had an excellent goal-scoring chance. I failed to score the penalty kick. I really regret that. It hurts right now, but we must focus on the coming match," said Robert Lewandowski after the match against Mexico.
