Wojciech Szczęsny: We could have scored definitely higher
"The rival was waiting for me to make the first move on a penalty kick and simply got fooled. After the previous match there were complaints "about the long pass," so I gave one good pass. And my "long passes" are always precise. Certainly our confidence has grown after this win. We could have finished this match with a much higher score. Especially in the last minutes we had our chances and it's a bit of a shame. It's nice to win a match at the World Cup. It's really a very special feeling," said Wojciech Szczęsny after winning the match against Saudi Arabia.
"We analyzed the penalty kicks and knew that Salem Aldawsari usually waits for the goalkeeper. So I took the first step to the right to throw myself to the left and he was fooled. It was definitely more difficult to defend the follow-up shot, but I think that if a goal had been scored, it would not have been recognized, because the player was already standing by me as the penalty kick was taken. But it's certainly a nice feeling that I defended and everyone appreciates the intervention," added the Polish national team goalkeeper.
